Should I say something even though we've never formally met?

-Long story short:

He's that one guy from high school every girl would love to date or even just be friends with. He's handsome and popular and mysterious (the mysteriousness is what kept me so interested in who he was/is for the last 3 years)

Our circle of friends were completely different so I never got the chance to be introduced to him. Yes, I know I could have just introduced myself but I was insecure, and he had plenty of chances to do the same and never did which kind of put me off.



We're now out of high school and I'm off to college at the end of August. I'm still terrified to talk to him, its the last of my insecure high school girl lingering in me. But that's why I think its important to say something to him. To get over that last fear of rejection from a good looking guy who I can't make heads or tails of and move on.



I just want to ask him if he knows who I am. Like, if I even showed up on his radar at all. It's probably stupid but I keep asking myself: is it better to know, even if I turn out just to be another face in the crowd to him, or is it better to just wonder and not risk rejection?Do it, my god PLEASE do it. Rejection is merely a statement of someones opinion. Everyone in the world is going to have a different opinion on you and if he reacts by "rejecting you" then so be it. He may be nice and then you can tell him if you like,or he may be someone who, when you talk to them, you find out that there is not much to them and you dont tell them your private fantasy thoughts. I say go and find out which it is.
